Claire Davies, Advocate is a specialist family law firm bringing the expert skills and experience of Claire to what is a very technical aspect of the law. First qualifying in England in 1992, Claire has been a Jersey Advocate for 22 years and regularly appears in Jersey’s courts.. As well as working for one of the island’s largest law firms she has been partner and senior partner at local firms prior to starting Claire Davies, Advocate with a clear focus solely on family law. Whilst we deal with all aspects of family law such as children, finances and marriage Claire has gained a reputation for particular expertise and sensitivity in dealing with complex cases, high net worth clients & entrepreneurs and matrimonial matters involving mental health issues or domestic abuse. She is a member of the Children’s Panel in Public Law matters and is one of the select members able to represent both parents and children. She also represents the Minister for Health and Social Services.
Claire has provided advice to a number of institutions off-island, in countries as diverse as the United States and Guernsey.
Claire has in the past served as the island’s Acting Batonnier and has been a Batonnier substitute since 2013.
She has sat as Deputy Chairman on the Jersey Employment and Discrimination Tribunal since 2012 and in 2018 was sworn in as a Greffier Substitute to assist the Royal Court.
She has previously served as chair of the Jersey Family Law Association and has been actively involved in reviews and improvements in areas of the legal process and practices in the island.
Claire is a trained family mediator and works with Family Mediation Jersey.
In addition, Claire now teaches aspects of family law in three jurisdictions (the Jersey Institute of Law law course, the University of London External Programs – LLB law degree and the Guernsey Bar Course) helping to mould the next generation of lawyers in the Channel Islands and this year will also deliver teaching on the law module for the new Jersey Social Work Degree. She has also written accompanying study guides for both Jersey and Guernsey.
